Crop Share veg box scheme.

Fresh, local and seasonal, supporting mental health.

Our Crop Share veg box scheme is more than just our produce. We like to think of it as an extension of our on-farm activity and a significant part of our larger Growing Well family.

Our Crop Share veg box scheme is more than just our produce. We like to think of it as an extension of our on-farm activity and a significant part of our larger Growing Well family.

Our Crop Shares (veg boxes) are the product of the therapeutic activity that people participate in when at Growing Well. As well as improving population mental health, we also produce amazing, organic food for our local community.

By committing to be one of our 100+ Crop Sharers you become a part of the investment in improving community mental health. We can’t think of a more fantastic way for you to support your community.

Our Crop Shares follow the seasons and allow our beneficiaries to follow the journey from seed to plate, which is therapeutic in itself.

“We have loved the produce we’ve received and the effort that goes in to ensuring we always have lovely crops each week. Our home menu has seen some new recipes and dishes creep in this year thanks to the almost ‘lucky dip’ feel of what veg and salad we’ll pick up each week compared to our usual shop and selections. That’s been great!”

    Crop Share FAQs

How much is Crop Share membership?

We ask for Crop Sharers to make an annual commitment, paid for via a Direct Debit subscription of £42.50 per month for 12 months, taken on the 10th of the month.

After you sign up, you will be sent a link to our GoCardless* system and asked to complete the Direct Debit instructions.

Membership and your direct debits will continue automatically each year unless you choose to cancel.

*We don’t hold any of your card details at Growing Well.

What is the value of the Crop Share?

The £510 annual fee reflects the retail value of between £490 and £530 a year, which equates to a simple monthly payment of £42.50.

We can’t guarantee exactly how the growing seasons will pan out – if you receive more value than you paid, then we will have had an abundant year for you to enjoy!

And if we missed our target slightly it means we have had a difficult growing year, and this is why we need to count on your long-term support for our charity.

When you are paying £42.50 a month in the leaner months of January and February, this is offset by bags worth £60 or more a month in the high summer.

We review the price of our Crop Share membership and the value of the previous year’s crop on an annual basis.

Does my Crop Share membership include a donation element?

No, but you are helping Growing Well secure its farm income to the benefit of the charity by committing to buy a share of our annual harvests.

By having guaranteed Crop Share customers provides our charity with security of a regular income stream throughout the year.

How often are the Crop Shares?

We commit to a minimum of 37 Crop Shares per year, and aspire to a regular pattern of:

    • every three to four weeks from January to March;
    • fortnightly Crop Shares during April and May;
    • and weekly Crop Shares June to December.

In the first few months of each year we can’t provide weekly bags, so we let you know via email when the bags will be available and will endeavour to let you know should there be changes to the above.

Will all of my Crop Share be grown at Growing Well?

Over 95% of our produce is grown on here at our Low Sizergh site ensuring the produce is at its freshest and has been directly grown by the people we support.

We aim to make it always 100% but occasionally, in winter, due to the challenges of growing organically in Cumbria, we may top up the Growing Well veg with one or two items of organic veg grown by trusted partners such as Organic North, to maintain the value of your Crop Share.

Do you offer a choice of different vegetables?

To keep our scheme as simple and efficient as possible, we offer one single size of Crop Share. In response to feedback we do now offer some choice to Crop Sharers in the form of a “swap box”.

We will stock the swap box in the chiller room with some of that week’s items and if you wish to swap something from your bag, you are welcome to leave it in the swap box in exchange for another item you prefer from there. This is simply on a first-come-first-served basis.

Throughout the year you will receive many new vegetables or varieties you may not have tried before. Most of our Crop Sharers say they enjoy the discovery of new produce and the challenge of incorporating it into their week’s meals.

Every Crop Share is accompanied by an email newsletter which will highlight any unusual items and we will often suggest how to cook it or provide a full recipe.

How and where do I collect my Crop Share?

Crop Shares are ready for collection from Low Sizergh Farm from 4pm on Thursday each Crop Share week, and can be collected any time from then until the following Tuesday at 9am.

You can collect your Crop Share from our chiller in the packing room next to the cow shed, facing the main road.

Please try to collect between the hours of 8am and 6pm so as not to disturb the Park family at home. The back entrance to Low Sizergh Farm is never closed, only the front gate.

Any vegetables left over on a Tuesday morning will be distributed to the people we support.

Further, full instructions will be provided when you sign-up for Crop Share.

What if I don't collect my Crop Share?

Any Crop Share boxes and vegetables left over on the following Wednesday morning will be distributed to the people we support to take home.

Can Crop Sharers collect for each other?

Yes! We have a number of groups of neighbours or near neighbours who arrange their own group collection rota.

We do not manage these ourselves but can let new Crop Sharers know of any local groups and put you in touch.

Why can't you deliver my Crop Share?

We consider this regularly but always find it would not be cost effective to offer a professional delivery service while we have so many members who are happy to collect from the farm.

It would also reduce the amount of income from the Crop Share which supports the day-to-day running of Growing Well.

What happens when I'm away on holiday?

Crop Sharers can have ‘holidays’ from two Crop Shares a year. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a payment holiday.

If you’re going to be away for more time we suggest you offer your share to a neighbour or a friend – perhaps interesting them in joining the scheme at the same time! Alternatively, you can direct us to donate your Crop Share to the people we support.

In any case, if you do not need your Crop Share packing then please give us at least one week’s notice and we’ll ensure that we don’t harvest more vegetables or pack more than we need.

What if I decide to leave the Crop Share scheme?

We value your participation in our Crop Share and would be sorry to see you go. Your involvement supports our local charity and helps us deliver fresh, seasonal organic produce to our community.

If our Crop Share no longer meets your needs, we completely understand – but before you decide to leave, please let us know if there’s anything we can adjust to better suit your preferences. We’re committed to finding solutions that work for us both.

If you decide to leave, all we ask is one month’s notice so we can adjust accordingly. We’ll collect your final payment and cancel your direct debit.
